It works by blunting the euphoric effects of alcohol in the brain that is connected to the release of dopamine.
GLP-1 Medications - Choose Your Horizon began offering GLP-1 medication for controlling alcohol cravings in 2026 after conducting a pilot program in 2023.
Research has shown that GLP-1 medications have the ability to decrease alcohol cravings, though they work on different reward paths compared to naltrexone.
Combination Treatment - When deemed appropriate by a clinician, naltrexone and GLP-1 medication can be combined.
The Iceberg Alcohol Program - For patients that want a more structured monthly program to follow there’s the Iceberg Alcohol Program.
It includes a full spectrum of support with scheduled one-on-one virtual sessions with a clinician, naltrexone medication, at-home blood testing and a tracking app.
