Feel like your best self again is a slogan at Thrive Alcohol Recovery, but in actuality it’s much more than that. It’s a truth that fuels the efforts of everyone involved with the organization, and it’s been a reality for countless people who have sought support from Thrive.

If you’ve ever struggled with alcohol use, you’ll completely understand why Thrive Alcohol Recovery exists and why it’s such a powerful resource. Even if a person isn’t drinking alone, alcohol use disorder (AUD) can feel extremely isolating and lonely. It can also feel overwhelming when you do try to get problematic drinking habits under control.

And that is why Thrive Alcohol Recovery was established. It’s a place where anyone who is interested in or currently using The Sinclair Method (TSM) can find all the information and support they need in one place. Thrive provides the foundation for building a new life where alcohol isn’t at the center of it all. It provides the resources that can be difficult to find but are essential for using TSM and the medication naltrexone to dramatically change habits and get back to feeling like your best self again.

From Hitting Rock Bottom to Founding the First Online TSM Support Group

Katie Lain, the founder of Thrive Alcohol Recovery, began drinking in a way that is all too familiar for many people. At age 21, Katie thought drinking with friends was the normal thing to do. It was almost expected. What wasn’t expected was the party lifestyle turning into alcohol use disorder.

Like so many people with alcohol use disorder, hitting rock bottom wasn’t enough for Katie to break her addiction. Even after experiencing a life threatening bilateral pulmonary embolism that was likely brought on by excessive alcohol use, Katie wasn’t able to break free from her AUD. Within days of leaving the hospital, against her doctor’s advice she was drinking again even as she recognized the serious problems it was creating.

But at that point Katie’s alcohol consumption had become habitual. It was a near daily occurrence whether she wanted it to be or not. It wasn’t until a few years later that Katie finally found the solution - The Sinclair Method.

Despite finding a research-backed option there were still a number of struggles. The first significant hurdle was getting a prescription for naltrexone. Things were far different in 2017 when Katie first heard about the medication. Today you can get an online prescription for naltrexone, but eight years ago Katie had to go to many doctors before someone would prescribe the medication.

It was soon evident to Katie that naltrexone and The Sinclair Method was what she had needed. With assistance at a biological and psychological level, she was finally able to gain control over her alcohol consumption.

The problem then was lack of education and awareness. There was little for Katie to go on throughout her journey. Even though naltrexone has a success rate of 78%, and it could help millions of Americans, there was very little information out there on the medication.

Since that time, Katie has become one of the people that has ensured information is out there for anyone who is interested in using naltrexone. She created a YouTube channel and the first ever TSM online support group (TSM Meetups), which became some of the earliest resources for a method that is now widely accepted by clinicians and being considered by more and more people every day.

Still, Katie knew there was more she could do to help people who needed The Sinclair Method to transform their own lives.

From an Online Support Group to a Completely Unique, Comprehensive Alcohol Recovery Program

Thrive Alcohol Recovery is a truly revolutionary program. When Katie created the concept for Thrive in 2021 nothing else remotely like it existed, which is why she was determined to expand the online support group she had created.

The goal was to provide comprehensive support so that a person could find everything they needed to succeed with The Sinclair Method in one place. More than coaching on naltrexone use, Thrive Alcohol Recovery provides information on receiving a naltrexone prescription as well as a community where people can connect with others. There is also coaching with certified professionals, group sessions, live Q&As with experts and guided online workshops.

The programs offered through Thrive Alcohol Recovery blend evidence-backed medication with personal support and education. It’s a powerful combination that has proven to increase the chance of breaking bad drinking habits and experiencing long-term freedom from alcohol use disorder.

Another key differentiator with Thrive’s programs is goal-setting. Establishing goals and leveraging them during treatment is a powerful tool for taking control of alcohol consumption. The practice transfers over to other areas, giving members a greater sense of control overall as they redirect their life.

Helping People Find Freedom From Alcohol in a Realistic, Sustainable Way

Completely abstaining from alcohol and taking control of alcohol consumption are two different approaches. Many people genuinely want to stop wanting alcohol. They don’t want to be forced to abstain from drinking alcohol while still wanting it.

The Sinclair Method is based on the concept that alcohol use disorder is a learned behavior that can be changed. When paired with naltrexone a person can gradually drink less by reestablishing their reward response so that the pleasure that’s associated with drinking diminishes.

Even after years of drinking, it’s possible for someone to dramatically shift their alcohol use with the right methods that get to the root of the issue. Thrive Alcohol Recovery gives people what they need to put those methods in place and find freedom from alcohol in a sustainable way. And because it’s a private, at-home program, Thrive Alcohol Recovery is extremely accessible for the many people who can find relief with naltrexone and TSM. It’s a modern solution for an issue that’s been ongoing for generations.

If you’re interested in getting a naltrexone prescription and trying Thrive’s recovery programs you can start by taking our online Alcohol Use Assessment. It’s the first step to getting naltrexone and implementing The Sinclair Method to become your best self again.
